Ever wondered how to make your turret follow a rail track? You will learn how here. In case you wondered, you will need a Matinee animation and barely if anything for kismet. The turret will then follow the rail track using the movements key just like in the game. Just for you to know, you don't need the rail mesh in order to get all of this working, it's all about matinee animation patterns and the very
First, place your turret.
Once the turret is in place, you can find the railing mesh in the "VH_Turret" package located in the vehicle folder of your UT3 folder. Right click on the window, you should get this:
Click on that, by doing so the engine knows what we want to create here and gives us our pre-made actors ready to be used. All we need to do now is to set the matinee animation for our Turret. Double click on the "Turret Track" box, you have now opened a box like this.
OMG hax. If you didn't knew about matinee before, you may get confused as hell with all the stuff in there, let's just get all of this really easy and short. Click on the "Movement" track in the matinee. Now here's what you will need to use:
1- This is the timebar, basically where your current position in the timeline animation is, and where you will put your next Keypoint. You probably start to get things cleared up a little bit now, what we will first do now is to get back into the level, make sure the turret is selected and press "ENTER" while making sure that (IMPORTANT): 1- Our timebar is at the very beginning of the timeline! Now you probably see a yellow/orange dot on your turret, this means the animation is ready, move the turret and do the same pattern (Use enter to make a Keyframe again), while keeping in mind that you will need to move the timebar to where you want your keyframe to be. Then you should see a Yellow pattern make it's apparition - that's your guy, do all that stuff until you hit the very limit of your timeline. Note that if you think your timeline is too short (5 seconds) you can always move the red triangle icon to where you want it to be, the time limit is displayed at the bottom/left. Your turret should be now ready, build your paths, and play test it. Do some testing too, don't be afraid to test it some more and try to make crazy setup working. Have fun. |
